TRAVEL

Getting In

Our wedding festivities will take place in the island of Boracay, just a quick 45-minute flight away from Manila. We have a few recommendations below to hopefully make it a seamless journey, especially for our guests flying from overseas.

Skyline of Makati City in Manila, Philip

Flying to Manila

  • Consider getting on a direct flight offered by Philippine Airlines to Manila via the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) (~16 hours)

  • You can also opt for flights with layovers in neighboring cities such as Singapore Airlines, ANA / JAL, or Cathay Pacific

  • Note that the Philippines is 13 hours ahead of NYC so your arrival date will likely be +1 day

Connecting to Boracay

  • There are plenty of flight options offered by Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific (go 5J!)
  • We recommend getting a morning flight to avoid flight delays
  • Note that the NAIA terminals are NOT connected - if you are transferring terminals to get to Boracay, you'll need to go through immigration and baggage claim, exit the airport and travel ~15mins by car, and go through security again
    • If scheduling connecting flights, we recommend putting a 3-hour buffer just in case (you never know with Manila traffic...)

Suggested 7-Day Itinerary

For our friends and family coming from the US - thank you for choosing to spend your Thanksgiving weekend with us :) If you have 7 days (~3 vacation days) to spare, we suggest the itinerary below:

We're more than happy to help you tailor the above if you have more or less days OR if you have other destinations you’d like to visit within (e.g. Palawan, Siargao, Bohol, etc.) and outside (Japan, Bali, Thailand, Singapore, HK, Korea, etc.) of the PH! Please shoot us a message directly or reach out to our wedding planner Amanda's team (boracayweddings@yahoo.com).

Arriving at Caticlan

Caticlan is the jump-off point to Boracay. We recommend changing into slippers or sandals at the jetty port for your comfort and in anticipation of the beach. Public bancas (small motorized boats) from the jetty port transport passengers to the centralized boat station on the island, which takes about 10 minutes travel time.

We recommend availing of any transfer arrangements offered by your accommodations, but in case you would like to arrange this directly, below are a few companies offering door-to-door and private transfers via Caticlan:

Southwest Travel & Tours - southwesttours.com.ph

We have a room block, with a limited number of rooms available at a discount. Please scroll down to the Special Room Rates section to view the rates and for instructions on how to book!

Please note that Shangri-La has its own private beach and is about 15-20 minutes away from the center of the island and the main beach. The resort provides shuttles, but if you're looking for somewhere closer to the action, we suggest looking at other hotels in Station 1, Boracay (see below!).

Travel Tips

Please do not drink water directly from the tap. Bottled purified water is easily available so please purchase these instead!

Establishments usually charge a 20% service fee so you do not need to tip this amount. However, it is customary to leave your change as tip or put down PHP100-500 in cash (US$2-10)

English is widely used and all signs are in English which should lessen the language barrier

Keep some cash on you at all times to pay for public transport, airport terminal fees, food, etc.

Ask your hotel accommodation if transfers are included in your room rate or if they can arrange transfers for you as doing it yourself at the jetty might be a bit confusing

Q&A

For all our friends and family who have lots of questions, please check out our Q&A first!

How do we get to Boracay?

We're excited for the travel adventure that awaits you to Soph's side of the world! Head over to the Travel section of this website for the full rundown + hotel recs and a sample itinerary. If you're flying from anywhere else, want to add other destinations, or need any help at all planning your itinerary - please just shoot us a message!

Manila friends - we'll be in Boracay (at minimum) from Thursday to Monday & would love some company then!

What kind of shoes should/shouldn't I wear?

Avoid stilettos as the ceremony will be in the garden / over grass!

What will the weather be like?

Welcome to the tropics! Please leave your coats and fall clothes behind - it will be extremely hot and humid (think summer in NYC) with temps in the low to mid 80F (25-30C) on average and could reach 90F+ during the day. Shorts, flip-flops, light weight fabrics like cotton and linen are the way to go. Most places have A/C so bring a light jacket just in case.

Whom should I call with questions?

Please reach out to our wedding planner Amanda Tirol and her team for any questions at all or assistance with booking, recommendations, etc.

Email: boracayweddings@yahoo.com (keep our names in the subject for ease of reference)

‎Mobile: +63 917 5396220 | ‎+63 998 988 5962

When is the RSVP deadline?

Please RSVP by August 30th, so we can have an accurate headcount.

Can I bring a date?

Please check your invite for your +1!

Are kids welcome?

As much as we love your little ones, we would like to keep the ceremony and reception adult-only as much as possible. However, we recognize that some of you will be traveling with your kids, so please let us know if you are not able to make arrangements and we will do our best to accommodate. They are also welcome at the Friday cocktail reception!

Do you have a wedding registry?

Your presence is more than enough - we mean it!!!

Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?

Our wedding ceremony is outdoors by the garden (not the beach so shoes can be sand-friendly) and the reception will be indoors :)

Is it okay to take pictures with our phones and cameras during the wedding?

Yes! We would love to see our wedding from your perspective - please tag us or send to us after!

Local Transportation Around Boracay & Manila

Main transportation to get around the island is via E-trike. Flagging down an E-trike will generally cost PHP50 - PHP150 (~US$3) per trip, although expect to negotiate on the price especially at night. Please ask your hotel if they have shuttles available to D'Mall (center of the island) - they most likely provide! Or you can always walk. :)

In Manila - you will need to download the Grab app (previously Uber PH). Rates are extremely affordable - e.g. the 30min ride from the airport to BGC will cost PHP500-1000 (US$10-20) depending on traffic. Please avoid flagging down taxis - they tend to haggle on rates instead of using the meter.

Manila is unfortunately not a walkable city so you will need to ride by car to get around. Having said that, we do not recommend that you rent a car and try to drive. Manila drivers are something else :) there are affordable chauffeur driven car rentals around that are quite affordable and convenient! Try Avis PH: avis.com.ph/chauffeur-driven/.
